1. Committees (e.g. Blood Drive, Public Relations, Dance-A-Thon)
2. Community Events (e.g. Halloween Safety, F.A.C.T)
3. Card Drives (e.g. Holiday Cards, Blood Drive Cards)
4. Participation in Blood Drives (e.g. Food, Donation, Volunteer)
5. Craft Fair Participation
6. Specified by us/Local Chapter-related (e.g. Code Red Logo Contest, Knit-Your-Bit, etc)
Go to our Events page to find out what specifically counts as Community Service Hours.
When getting hours signed off by Mrs. Pica for NHS, list the SPECIFICS of your hours if it is going in the "Volunteer Community Service Verification" section (e.g. taught kids Halloween Safety in October 2009, talked to donors at the Spring 2010 Blood Drive, etc.) Check the previous year's spreadsheets or this Winter newsletter to fill out your application. Club Hours
The hours above are considered as Volunteer Hours because they are not volunteer opportunities that you can "buy hours" from,
whereas from the other events, the amount of money that you have is
related to the amount of participation you can have in an event.
All other hours are considered as "club hours", which count towards the 10 needed at the end of the year for you to be an "official red cross club member".
Volunteer hours double as both club hours and volunteer hours except for hours from chapter-club events (e.g. DAT Logo Contest, DAT Fundraising). Those hours still count as volunteer hours and towards your hours needed to become an official Red Cross member. The local chapter will give you a certificate for those hours. We will not give you hours for your volunteer work for the chapter to prevent doubling of already given volunteer hours.
When getting club membership ("Co-Curricular High School Activities" section) signed off by Mrs. Pica for NHS, you must have earned the required club hours or more in each grade year that you write down. Mrs. Pica will ONLY sign your packet if you are/were an official club member.
Current hours information will be released in our newsletter, starting in the winter issue. Hours information from previous years can be found here.
